Coverage B - Other Structures

Coverage B in a homeowners insurance policy provides protection for other structures located on the residence premises.

Coverage B Qualification

"Other Structures" are defined as any building or structure not part of the primary residence, that is clearly separated from the main dwelling. If a structure is connected to the residence by something more substantial than a utility line or fence, such as an attached garage, it will be considered part of the dwelling rather than an "other structure."

Coverage Requirements

The following are not covered under Coverage B:

  • The land on which other structures are located.
  • Structures used for business purposes.
  • Structures rented out to someone who is not a tenant of the primary dwelling.

"Homeowner Coverage B—the sidekick to Coverage A’s superhero. Think of it as Robin to Batman, except instead of fighting crime, it’s defending all the cool stuff not glued to your house. We’re talking fences, sheds, gazebos—basically, if it’s chilling on your property but not technically *part* of your house, Coverage B has its back. Just don’t get wild and expect it to cover your neighbor’s flamingo statue. That’s their problem, not yours."
