Coverage A - Dwelling

Coverage A in a homeowners insurance policy offers protection for the following types of property:

  • The residence specified on the declarations page.
  • Structures that are physically attached to the specified residence.
  • Materials and supplies located on or near the residence premises that are intended for use in altering, adding to, or repairing the residence or other structures listed in the policy’s declarations.

Coverage A Qualification

To qualify for coverage under a homeowners policy, a residence needs to be a one- to four-family dwelling. The land an insured property sits on is not covered.

Coverage Requirements

An insurance carrier generally requires that a home be insured for its full replacement cost to make sure a home is not under-insured.

"Homeowner Coverage A is the part of your insurance policy that keeps your humble abode from turning into a giant wallet-draining death trap. It’s the Bruce Wayne of coverage—protecting the actual structure of your home, including attached structures like garages or decks. Hail storm damage? Covered. Fire-breathing dragon attack? Not covered."
